$1 million in commission in one year!!

Anne Newbury never dreamed of becoming a millionaire when she joined Mary Kay Inc. as an independent sales representative 37 years ago.
"I didn't want anything full time," said Ms. Newbury, a Dallas resident. "Just give me $50 a week. If I could bring in that kind of money, that was significant."
But today, Ms. Newbury will be feted as the first-ever Mary Kay independent national sales director to earn more than $1 million in commissions in a single year.
She'll receive the accolades on the opening day of Mary Kay's annual convention, which runs through Aug. 2 at the Dallas Convention Center.
More than 42,000 Mary Kay sales representatives will visit the area over the course of the convention, and more than 1,100 of the famous pink Cadillacs will be awarded to the top sellers.
There are more than 1.6 million Mary Kay "independent beauty consultants" worldwide, up 17 percent from last year.
The company estimates that the massive convention, which is focused mostly on the U.S. sales force, will inject about $100 million into the Dallas economy.
While Mary Kay is now known as a global beauty powerhouse with $2.2 billion in sales last year, Ms. Newbury joined the company when it was just getting started under the stewardship of the legendary Mary Kay Ash.
Ms. Ash died in 2001, but Rhonda Shasteen, senior vice president of marketing at Mary Kay, said there was no doubt the cosmetics company would continue to prosper.
"For those of us who are involved with the company and knew Mary Kay, I would say no, there was no concern," she said. "Mary Kay knew early on that what she built was going to surpass her lifetime."
Ms. Newbury, 65, is retiring this year and has earned nearly $11 million over the course of her career while overseeing roughly 30,000 independent Mary Kay representatives in eight countries. She said she hopes to pass on the things she's learned to upcoming generations.
And she's thrilled to be ending her career with a record that Ms. Ash herself encouraged salespeople to aim for.
"Mary Kay used to talk about it in her speeches, saying 'Some day this will happen,' " Ms. Newbury said. "I'm more excited about it than I can probably express right now."

A healthy business begins with a healthy mindset
When you look at your people do you see rocks or
gems?
When you’re alone with your thoughts, what do
you think of your people? What do you think of
your business?
The
power of the subconscious mind: it does not know
truth from theory and it will go to work to
prove you right every time. So, whatever you
are telling your brain over and over again WILL
become your reality.
What you think about you talk about and you
bring about.
Slide projector analogy: Are you familiar with
how a traditional slide project works? There is
a round slide spool with individual slots for
each different slide. Whatever slide you drop
into the projector will appear magnified on the
screen. Can you put a slide of a vibe in the
projector and get a picture of a Cadillac on the
screen? Can you put a slide of hoping to make
production into the projector and have a $10,000
paycheck appear on the screen? NO.
Crayk Area minimum expectation is $10,000
wholesale, because pay ~ $4000. After taxes and
expenses that becomes ~ $2000, and the job isn’t
worth it after that.
Tammy works personally with Directors and DIQs
who Power Start on a monthly basis.
3 examples of women in her Area who turned their
business and life around with power starts:
Karen – 13 children, in graduate school and
working full-time when she got committed;
won the vibe at CC last year, earned her
Caddy 3 months later and has been doing
Cadillac production every month since.
Jalene – shyest, most timid and afraid
person Tammy has ever met; committed to
power starts every month, started hitting
$10,000 in DIQ and has done no less than
$10,000 every month since as a Director.
Still calls and asks Tammy, “Do you think I
can do this?” Ha!
Unnamed Director – in January her unit’s
production was $650. She actually owed the
company $ that month because of a
chargeback. Her husband came to her after
the month ended and said it’s either me or
MK. Instead of giving in getting caught up
in the emotion, she decided to get mad
enough to go to work. The following month,
she did 47 faces and 25 FACE TO FACE
interviews. Her production that month was
$22,000 wholesale and her love check was
$7900!
Your MK business WILL NOT support you
financially at minimum production, and you
shouldn’t expect it to. There is absolutely
nothing wrong with the MK marketing plan. The
question is whether or not we are WORKING the
plan. If we’re not careful, when we are in an
unhappy place in our business, we deceive
ourselves as to the amount of work it takes to
succeed. And we say, “I don’t want to work that
much or that hard”. The truth is that you do
not need to work around the clock to see
success.
A 20-30 hour WORK week (not a think, intend, and
worry week) in MK will pay better than most
full-time traditional jobs where you must be
away from home the entire time.
A 40 hour work week will pay exponentially more
than traditional employment, and even then
you’re only working outside the home for maybe
20 of those hours. The other 20 hours you’re
working from home and you get to decide WHEN you
work the hours.
There are 168 hours in each week, so it’s not a
matter of whether we HAVE the time. It a matter
of whether we have weighed the pros and cons,
evaluated the cost versus the benefit, and made
a decision on whether we find the 20 – 40 hours
a valuable use of our time in comparison with
our other options.
If you’re truly putting in the time, but not
seeing the results, then we must look at what
you are doing with that time. Are you investing
it in non-income producing areas? Could you be
working smarter? Are you EXPECTING results from
your time, or are you just going through the
motions?
If you are at the end of your rope, here is my
double dog dare to you this month: With the
exception of your weekly meeting, COMPLETELY
IGNORE YOUR UNIT. Do 30 faces, 20 personal
interviews, track your time and your results. |
